Home Technology Assessments

What is a Home Technology Assessment?

Wavelength AV is offering a new service for new and current clients!

A Home Technology Assessment is a professional review of how technology functions throughout your home — identifying opportunities to simplify control, improve performance, and plan future upgrades with confidence.

Our assessments check all home technology systems to ensure wifi, smart devices, control systems and more are in optimal shape. If they are not, we'll offer you options to make it even better.

Frequently Asked Questions

I completed the Home Technology Personality Quiz — should I schedule an assessment?

If you’re ready for personalized recommendations specific to your home, the assessment is the best next step. Many clients begin with a consultation first if they are still exploring ideas or if they have a specific project in mind they'd like to begin.

What is the difference between Technology Assessments and your Free Estimates?

Free estimates are provided for new installations or project-based work.

Technology Reviews evaluate existing systems and involve diagnostic-level expertise, which is why they are a paid service.

Free Estimates

  • Provided for new installations or project-based work
  • Designed to scope new equipment and installation
  • No deep system diagnostics included

Tech Performance Reviews

  • Designed for evaluation of existing systems
  • Includes diagnostic-level review and optimization planning
  • Appropriate for upgrades, troubleshooting, or performance concerns

What is the difference between the three assessment options?

A Home System Check (option 1) is a professional evaluation of your home’s WiFi, connected devices, audio systems, and overall technology performance. It is designed to identify reliability issues, aging equipment, and opportunities to improve performance. You do not need to be a current client to take advantage of this review.

Control4 Review & Check Up (option 2) is a deeper review specifically for current Wavelength AV clients with an existing Control4 system. We evaluate controller health, software eligibility, system architecture, and opportunities for upgrades or expansion to improve reliability and performance.

The Control4 Transfer Program is specifically designed for Control4 systems that are managed by a dealer other than Wavelength Audio Video and you are interested in changing dealers. Prior to setting up a transfer of your system, our technicians will review details with you to ensure a clear and seamless process.

If I'm a current Control4 Client with Wavelength AV, can I choose the Home System Check option instead?

While we completely understand the need for budget restrictions, the Control4 platform requires a trained, licensed Control4 technician to review your system and its programming. The Home System Check review currently does not include reviewing an automation system and would not be an appropriate fit for the time, skills and understanding required for an accurate review.

I've never worked with you before and I have a control system. Which option should I choose?

The Control System Check Up is a great choice whether you're a Wavelength AV client or not if you'd like a full assessment of your system.

The Transfer Service is best for you if you'd like to change your Control4 dealer to Wavelength AV or if you have another control system that you might like to switch to Control4.

If you're still not sure, give us a call or send an email to hello@wavelengthaudiovideo.com and we'll give you some more information over the phone to help you decide.

Does the review include repairs, installation or troubleshooting?

No. The review is an assessment only.

Physical repairs, programming changes, installations, or equipment replacements are quoted separately, as a result of your review. We'll go over these options with you and schedule any additional work at your convenience.

Why is there a fee?

The review is conducted by senior technicians and provides professional evaluation, planning guidance, and expert recommendations.

The goal is to give homeowners clear direction rather than guesswork or repeated service visits. Conducting this review ahead of any potential issues ensures you do not have an interruption of service in the future.

For the Control4 Transfer Program, single room system transfers may begin at $750, however this fee will only be charged should you choose to move ahead with switching your dealer to Wavelength Audio Video. A conversation with you is required first to fully understand your Control4 system prior to making changes.

How long does the appointment take?

The review, regardless of which level is selected, is roughly 30-60 minutes. Timing may vary depending on the size of the system and accessibility.

For the Control4 Transfer Program, timing may vary depending on the previous dealer's system set up, age of the system and other potential factors. Our technician will review the system with you and the time required based on your specific system prior to charging a fee.

Do I need to prepare anything before the visit?

If you are not a current client or have installed a new item that we have not previously installed or serviced, we recommend having:

  • WiFi and service passwords available
  • Access to equipment areas
  • Knowledge of any ongoing issues

If system credentials are unavailable, some portions of the review may be limited.

What happens after the review?

You will receive clear recommendations in the form of an estimate, which we will review with you over the phone. The document will outline:

  • What is working well
  • What may require attention
  • Optional improvements or upgrades

If you choose to proceed, our team will send you the estimate for digital approval and to schedule your service.

If there is no recommendation of service and your system is fully operational, there is nothing more to do. We'll follow up with you again in a few months to ensure your system continues operating seamlessly.

What if I'm already having a problem or need service immediately?

If you are experiencing an urgent issue, please contact the office directly so we can schedule an appropriate service appointment instead of a review. If you have never worked with us before, our free estimate process may be a better fit for you. Current clients should contact the office for an immediate service call.

A little fine print

The Technology Assessment by Wavelength Audio Video is a professional diagnostic assessment and does not include physical repairs, reprogramming, firmware updates, or equipment replacement. This assessment was created to support client common requests for fine-tuning lighting scenes, improve WiFi performance, expand outdoor audio or lighting, simplify control for family members or staff, prepare spaces for entertaining or busy seasons ahead and more.
Any corrective work, programming adjustments, or hardware replacements identified during the review will be quoted separately. If system access credentials are unavailable at the time of visit, review scope may be limited. Review pricing applies to residential systems within standard service areas. Additional travel fees may apply outside normal service zones.
