FAQS ā Home automation
What is home automation?
A home automation system controls attributes of your home such as TVs, music, lighting, HVAC, door locks, and so much more. These systems typically also provide feedback such as notifying you that a garage door has been left open, sending you a snap shot picture of something moving in the backyard, or that your home is colder than it should be. They can also trigger events to happen based on other events such as automatically turning lights on when you arrive home or dimming lights after the sun has set. The customization possibilities of a home automation system are truly endless.
What types are there?
There are three main types of home automation systems which are available with many options. The most reliable type is one that has as many hardwired devices as possible, operating on a managed network, and a centralized control processor responsible for orchestrating the commands in an efficient manner. These types are brands such as Control4, Josh.ai, Savi, and Total Control by URC.
The next type is the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) type which typically consists of a lower priced product with wireless connectivity, where no centralized processing component is required as the devices each are responsible for their own actions. These are very popular especially when budget is a concern, however they tend to become unstable when adding too many devices. Brands such as Nest, Ring, Lutron, Sonos, Ecobee, etc fall into this category.
The last main type is the hybrid type where a centralized control processor such as a Control4 system is in place yet leverages the DIY products such as Ecobee or Sonos to mix budget friendly options with a much more reliable control platform.
We offer all three options at Wavelength Audio Video

what if i hate technology?
If you have a negative feeling about technology, we highly recommend that you avoid a home automation system at all costs. It sounds counter intuitive however, adding this type of technology should only be done if you look forward to enjoying its benefits or if you are trying to increase your homes value prior to selling.
